Substance abuse is a pattern of harmful use of any substance for mood-altering purposes. The objective of the study was to determine the types of substances commonly abused by youths in the school complex, UITH that could lead to kidney disease, to determine the knowledge of youths in the school complex, UITH on substance abuse, to determine the perception of youths in the school complex, UITH on the effect of substance abuse on the kidney and to determine knowledge of youths on ways to reduce the negative effects of substance abuse on the kidney. Quantitative research design using a descriptive method was used for the study. A sample size of 83 respondents was used for the study which was calculated from the target population of 651 using Fischer’s formula. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents and data were analyzed using SPSS 23.
