Abstract
Childhood obesity is a pressing global health concern with far-reaching implications for children's physical and psychological well-being. Mothers, as primary caregivers, play a pivotal role in shaping a child's dietary and lifestyle habits. Among the objectives were to assess the level of knowledge of mothers on the causes and effects of childhood obesity, and to determine the attitude of mothers towards causes and effects of childhood obesity.  A cross-sectional survey design was employed to collect data from a diverse sample of mothers with children between the ages of 5 and 17 years, a total of 154 mothers were used for the study. The survey instrument included a series of structured questions to assess maternal knowledge about the factors contributing to childhood obesity, as well as their perceptions of the associated health effects. Additionally, a Likert-scale was utilized to gauge maternal attitudes toward childhood obesity. Preliminary findings reveal a spectrum of knowledge levels among mothers regarding the causes of childhood obesity, while some mothers demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of multifaceted contributors, others exhibit gaps in their awareness, particularly pertaining to genetics. Notably, a significant portion of mothers recognize the influence of dietary habits, sedentary behavior, and societal factors in the development of childhood obesity. Maternal attitudes were influenced by personal experiences, income, and access to educational resources.  The study emphasizes the pivotal role of maternal education and empowerment in mitigating the risks associated with childhood obesity. Tailored interventions to address specific knowledge gaps and foster positive attitudes, healthcare providers and policymakers can work collaboratively with mothers to promote healthier lifestyles for children, ultimately contributing to the prevention of childhood obesity and the improvement of pediatric health outcomes....
