Abstract
This study assessed the factors militating against the effective implementation of electronic health records (EHR) in Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC). An electronic health record is the computerization of patients’ health records. Electronic health records have a lot of benefits among which are improved patient satisfaction, improved care processes, reduction of patients’ waiting time, and medication errors. Despite these influential benefits, healthcare organizations are slow to adopt electronic health records systems. Therefore the current study assessed the factors militating against the effective implementation of electronic health records system in OAUTHC. The study examined the level of awareness of electronic health records in OAUTHC, it examined the level of electronic health records in OAUTHC, it also investigated the factors militating against the effective implementation of electronic health records in OAUTHC as well as the relationships that exist among these factors. Descriptive design was adopted in the study. The study population is 1758, simple random sampling was used to choose a sample size of 175 respondents from the population and the instrument used for obtaining responses from the respondents was structured questionnaires. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0 was used to analyze the data gathered from the respondents.
