Abstract
This is a research on the barriers to utilization of research findings among nurses in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi. The objectives of the study were to determine the individual barriers to utilization of research findings among registered nurses in Nnewi, NAUTH, to ascertain the organizational barrier to utilization of research findings among registered nurses and to identify the innovation barriers to utilization of research findings among registered nurses. One of the significance of the study is to help identify factors militating against the utilization of research findings among registered nurses in clinical settings, thus improving their use of research findings and forming a basis for evidence-based care. The research design is a descriptive survey design. Total population was 514 nurses and all were studied. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. 102 questionnaires were distributed, completely filled and returned. The data was analysed using four point scale, tables, percentages and frequency. The barriers to utilization of research were marked which include lack of awareness of research 2.6%, lack of skills on how to research information 2.7%, nonchalant attitudes towards research 2.9%, etc. Majority of the respondents accepted insufficient time to read the research project 3.1%, lack of value for research 3.1%, lack of cooperation with other health workers 3.0%, inadequate facilities for implementation 3.6%, lack of opportunity to practice what you have learned were ways in which utilization of research can be enhanced 3.3%. The researcher recommends that nurses should be provided enough time to review and implement research findings. Hospital management should provide more financial support for the participation of nurses in scientific activities such as workshops, seminars and research conferences....
