Abstract
Electronic health records (EHRs) have the potential to improve healthcare delivery through enhanced access to patient information, reduced medical errors, and improved coordination of care. However, there are barriers to successful EHR implementation. This study examined the utilization of EHRs and their impact on healthcare delivery at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was used. Questionnaires were distributed to 53 health records staff at NAUTH to collect data on EHR utilization, benefits, barriers, solutions, and impact. Frequency counts and percentages were calculated. The chi-square test was used to analyze the hypothesis on the relationship between EHR utilization and impact on healthcare delivery. Majority of respondents (50.9%) agreed that EHRs have more benefits compared to the manual system while 49.1% disagreed. Over half (52.8%) indicated there are barriers to EHR utilization including system limitations and cultural barriers. Proposed solutions include strategic planning, leadership, training, and collaborating with experts. Most respondents (98.1%) agreed that EHRs can improve healthcare delivery at NAUTH. The hypothesis testing showed a significant relationship between EHR utilization and impact on health delivery (chi-square calculated value 14.4  tabulated value 3.84). There is good potential for EHRs to enhance healthcare services at NAUTH through reduced waiting times and medical errors if barriers such as limited facilities, power supply issues, and the need for staff training are addressed. Wider adoption of EHRs is recommended based on the observed benefits and positive impact....
