However, some hospitals still face challenges in implementing efficient computerized medical records (CMR). This study examined the benefits and barriers of CMR as a tool for effective clinical care at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. A descriptive research design was used with a sample of 52 medical records staff selected through random sampling from a population of 60. Data was collected via structured questionnaires and analyzed using frequency tables, percentages, and chi-square tests. 85% agreed CMR stores records well. 100% said confidentiality is maintained. 71% agreed CMR reduces patient wait times and 87% said CMR improves record management. 81% agreed CMR has advantages over paper records. 50% said clinical care is effectively delivered with CMR. 44% agreed CMR improves patient-provider communication. 77% agreed CMR enables health information exchange. 100% said patients cannot access records. 96% identified poor power supply as a barrier. 81% agreed to hospital planning and management impact CMR. 88% disagreed that CMR challenges outweigh the benefits. 100% identified political issues, power supply, and human factors as CMR barriers. The chi-square calculated value of 45.1906 was greater than the 3.84 tabulated value, so the study accepted that CMR is a tool for effective clinical care delivery. Hospital stakeholders should increase ICT equipment to transition from paper to electronic records. Health workers need ICT skills training. Improved data security via encryption is needed.
