Abstract
The institution of marriage is the foundation of a stable family, and the neglect of marital responsibilities can have far-reaching consequences on a child's upbringing. This study investigates the causes of neglecting marital responsibility and its impact on child upbringing in the Jalingo Local Government Area, with a focus on Islamic solutions to this problem. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods. The findings reveal that common causes of neglecting marital responsibility in the area include lack of communication, financial constraints, and infidelity. These factors lead to marital conflicts, which in turn negatively affect child upbringing, resulting in behavioral problems, poor academic performance, and emotional instability in children. From an Islamic perspective, the study identifies the importance of mutual respect, trust, and cooperation between spouses, as well as the need for parents to prioritize their roles and responsibilities in child upbringing. The study recommends that couples in Jalingo Local Government Area adopt Islamic principles such as forgiveness, patience, and kindness in their marital relationships and that they prioritize their roles as caregivers and role models for their children. Additionally, the study suggests that Islamic institutions and community leaders play a vital role in promoting marital harmony and responsible parenting through education, counseling, and community outreach programs. By adopting an Islamic approach to marital relationships and child upbringing, couples in Jalingo Local Government Area can foster a more stable and nurturing environment for their children, leading to better social, emotional, and academic outcomes....
