The purpose of the study is to describe and show the influence of brain drain of health information management professionals from the health records department and to proffer possible solutions to the causes of these problems and possibly bring it to its barest minimum. The objectives of the study are to determine the enablers (causes) of brain drain of health professionals in the medical records department, to determine the effects of brain drain of health professionals in the medical records department, to assess the attitude of these health information management professionals towards the profession and to examine what has been done in recent years to checkmate the excesses of brain drain in the medical records department. This study adopted a descriptive survey design it involves the design and the administration of questionnaires to the professionals of the health records department of the Hospital. Fifty (50) questionnaires were distributed in all were adequately filled and retrieved. Data collected was analyzed using simple arithmetic percentages. The researcher discovered that poor salaries, poor working conditions, poor insurance, inadequate supply of resources and poor training of professionals greatly contributed to the brain drain of health professionals of the medical records department.
