This recent study conducted in the Mbaise agricultural zone of Imo State sought to understand crop farmers' perceptions of and adaptations to climate change. The study aimed to assess farmers'' awareness of climate change, determine the extent to which they perceived climate change in the area, identify the various effects of climate change as perceived by the farmers, and understand the adjustment strategies adopted by them. Data was collected from 150 crop farmers randomly selected from the zone using interview schedules. The analysis utilized percentage, means, frequency distribution, and a multiple regression model. The findings show that an overwhelming majority of the farmers (98.33%) had experienced climate change in the area, with changes in rainfall patterns being the most prominent. The farmers perceived reduced crop yield, erosion, and increased heat, as the most significant adverse effects of climate change. To combat these effects, farmers adopted various strategies such as adjusting planting periods, using improved crop varieties, and adopting enhanced farming methods. The study also identified significant factors influencing farmers'' perception of climate change, including age, farming experience, educational level, and membership of social organizations. Based on these findings, the study recommended that extension agents advise farmers to adopt early planting and harvesting practices before adverse climate conditions peak. It also suggested that government and non-governmental organizations should provide assistance to farmers by offering irrigation facilities to reduce their reliance on rain-fed agriculture. This study provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by farmers in the Mbaise agricultural zone and offers practical recommendations to mitigate the impact of climate change on agricultural production and rural development. ...Preview Download Preview +Other Geography project topics and materials you might be interested in»Importance of introducing information technology in the teaching of geography in some selected secondary schools in Kumbotso local government area, Kano state»Impact of rural-urban migration on the economy of the rural environment of Kano state»Urbanization and industrial growth in Kano State»Role of women in livestock management and production - a case study of Garko local government area»Effect of gully erosion on the environment - a case study of Ipokia Lga»Factors influencing students poor performance in geography subject in Kano state (a case study of Gwale local government, Kano state)»Effectiveness of drainage network in combating flood occurrence in Owerri, Imo state»Evaluation of farmers’ perception on climate change in Biu local government area of Borno state»Environmental effect of urbanization in Umuaka Njaba lga, Imo state»Assessment of the perception of local farmers on climate change in Ezinihitte Mbaise lga, Imo state»Portable water demand and supply in Owerri municipal council of Imo state
