Abstract
This project work titled“Consumer Co-operative as a Tool for Improving the Development of Rural Area. The main objective of this research work is to examine the impact of co-operative societies in the socio-economic development area as taken as the case study. In order to carry out the research question relating to the topic were posted from which the data needed for the work gathered the population of the research constitute some registered co-operative societies in the Local Government Area. The main source of data are responses gotten from the questionnaires distributed oral interview of the co-operative officers in Owerri Municipal and secondary data gathered from textbooks journals periodicals, magazines, and lecture notes. The information gathered was analyzed using simple percentage method with detail interpretation and analysis of each table. The study revealed that the major achievement of co-operative in societies is improving the economic status of members and offering employment opportunities to the citizen....
