Abstract
The study investigated the influence of social interaction on adult learners’ persistence and completion of literacy programmes in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The researcher was interested in finding out how social interaction can be of great Influence on the adult learners’ persistence and completion of literacy programmes in Egor local government Area of Edo State. Five research questions were raised and a total sample of seventy-two (72) respondents drawn through a census sampling technique was used for the study. The data was collected using a self-structured questionnaire using the Likert Scale Format, after the expert validated the instrument, it was pilot-tested for reliability. The instrument’s reliability was determined using Cronbach's Alpha Procedure and after computation, a Cronbach’s Alpha co-efficient of 0.70 was obtained. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics. It was found in the study that social interaction indeed has a great influence on the adult learners’ persistence and completion of a literacy programme in Egor local government area of Edo State and that learners should try as much as possible to interact with people in their learning environment because it is considered as a stepping stone or a push in the achievement of one's academic pursuit. Based on the findings, it was concluded that social interaction significantly influenced adult learners’ persistence and completion of literacy programmes in Egor local government area of Edo State. The researcher therefore recommended that there should be adequate provision of educational resources and materials needed in order to increase the learners’ participation and progress in the literacy programme and that there should be provision of adequate financial resources to aid the literacy programme among others....
