Abstract
This study examined the impact of Health Information Technology on record-keeping efficiency in the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 80 Health Records Professionals in the study area. Complete enumeration was used in place of sample size for the study. Self-structured questionnaire, validated, was used for data collection in the study area as a research instrument. The questionnaire was structured to consist mostly of closed-ended type of questions. Frequency tables and simple percentages were used for data presentation. Based on the findings, it was discovered that there is a high level of computer literacy and formal training among healthcare professionals in using health information technology applications in the study area. However, the results also showed that a significant number of respondents face challenges when it comes to accessing patient data, exchanging patient information between healthcare providers, and addressing privacy and security concerns. Moreover, resistance from healthcare professionals remains a significant challenge to the implementation of health information technologies. Hence, the study recommends that there should be regular training and education programs for healthcare professionals to enhance their computer literacy and confidence in using health information technologies effectively. Also, healthcare providers should engage in collaborative decision-making with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to address resistance and increase support for HIT implementation. ...
