Abstract
This study examines the effectiveness of vaccination drives in improving immunization coverage in Mayaki, a community within Lapai Local Government Area, Niger State. Immunization remains a vital public health tool in preventing infectious diseases, particularly among children. However, despite its benefits, immunization coverage in Mayaki remains below optimal levels. Vaccination drives are frequently used to enhance coverage, but continuous evaluation is essential to guide effective strategies. A total of 100 respondents were selected using a stratified random sampling technique to ensure fair representation across various communities in Mayaki. Data collection involved structured questionnaires administered to parents and caregivers, focusing on vaccination history, knowledge, attitudes, and practices. The quantitative data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential techniques to explore the relationship between vaccination drives and immunization coverage. Findings show that vaccination drives positively impact immunization rates in Mayaki. However, their effectiveness is influenced by several factors, including community awareness, accessibility to health services, and the quality of vaccine delivery. The study also uncovered significant challenges affecting the success of vaccination efforts. These include vaccine hesitancy among caregivers, logistical issues in vaccine distribution, and weak community mobilization efforts. To enhance immunization coverage, the study recommends several strategies: increased community engagement and health education, strengthening vaccine supply chains and logistics, improving healthcare worker training and support, and encouraging stronger collaboration among stakeholders. Implementing these recommendations can help boost the effectiveness of vaccination drives, reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases, and promote better health outcomes in Mayaki and similar rural settings. Finally, the study emphasizes the need for further research into the long-term sustainability of vaccination programs and the integration of immunization into routine healthcare systems. It provides critical insights for policymakers, health workers, and community leaders to design more effective immunization strategies tailored to local needs....
