Abstract
The research work was conducted to examine work-related risk factors among health workers and their effects on productivity in Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The study population comprises 5,779 healthcare workers. 152 Health workers was selected as the sample size. Probability sampling method was employed with the use of proportionate stratified sampling techniques to select the sample. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze each objective and the relationship between variables. The findings of the study revealed majority of respondents (78.2%) strongly agreed that stress and burnout, exposure to infectious diseases, physical injuries, exposure to chemicals and musculoskeletal disorders from physical strain were significant work-related risk factors, with an overall mean score (x¯ 3.75). Work-related stress, long working hours, lack of rest periods, exposure to hazards, and mental health issues affect the productivity of healthcare workers.  The Chi Square analysis revealed a significant association between workload and productivity levels among health workers, with the 2 test results indicating a statistically significant relationship (2  120.67, df  4, p  0.0000). The research highlights the efficacy of various mitigation strategies in addressing work-related risk factors, which include stress management workshops, infection control measures, additional staff hiring, promoting work-life balance, and ensuring adequate PPE supply. The study concluded that work-related risk factors among health workers has effects on the productivity of health workers, emphasizing the importance of managing workload to maintain productivity. ...
