Abstract
This research investigates the comparative effectiveness of ethyl acetate and ethanol as solvents for the quantification and purification of genomic DNA. The study aims to determine which solvent yields higher quality DNA in terms of quantity, purity, and integrity, which are crucial for downstream molecular biology applications. Genomic DNA was extracted from biological samples using both solvents under controlled laboratory conditions, and the resulting DNA was quantified and assessed for purity using spectrophotometric analysis. The results showed a significant difference in performance between the two solvents. Ethanol demonstrated superior DNA yield and higher purity levels compared to ethyl acetate. Ethyl acetate, while capable of extracting DNA, produced lower quantities and less pure samples, potentially limiting its application in precise genomic studies. These findings highlight ethanol as the more efficient solvent for DNA purification and elution. The study recommends the use of ethanol in molecular biology protocols where high DNA yield and purity are critical, while also suggesting further exploration of alternative solvents to enhance DNA extraction methods. ...
