Abstract
This study, titled"Utilization of Digital Institutional Repositories by Faculty Members at Khalifa Isiyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN)", investigates faculty engagement with KHAIRUN’s digital institutional repository. The study had four objectives: to assess awareness, determine usage, identify challenges, and examine factors influencing engagement. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing a structured questionnaire titled"Interview Guide" for data collection. The population consisted of seven faculty members, with a census sampling technique ensuring all were included, resulting in a sample size of seven and a 100% response rate. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations. Findings revealed moderate awareness (71.5%) but limited understanding of the repository’s purpose, with ineffective university communication (57.2% disagreement). Usage was low, with only 57.2% accessing the repository and 28.6% uploading publications, reflecting underutilization. Technical (71.5%) and administrative (71.5%) challenges significantly hindered engagement, though 85.8% believed addressing these would improve the system. Professional motivations and personal challenges equally influenced participation (71.5%), with institutional policies showing mixed impact (57.2%). Recommendations include implementing awareness campaigns, simplifying the repository interface, upgrading technical infrastructure, and introducing incentives linked to professional advancement. The study underscores the repository’s potential to enhance research visibility and collaboration, provided barriers are addressed through targeted institutional support....
