Electricity remains a critical factor for business operations, yet its inconsistency and unreliability pose significant challenges to SME growth and sustainability. Using a descriptive survey design, data was collected from 150 SME operators through structured questionnaires and analyzed using mean scores derived from a 5-point Likert scale. The findings reveal that the power supply in the area is highly inconsistent, characterized by frequent blackouts, unstable voltage, and poor maintenance practices. These issues significantly affect operational efficiency, productivity, revenue generation, and customer satisfaction. Most SMEs resort to alternative sources such as generators, which incur high operational costs and further strain their financial resources. Despite these challenges, SME owners adopt various coping strategies, including scheduling operations around outages, maintaining backup systems, and minimizing inventory. However, collaboration among businesses and engagement with local authorities remain limited. Demographically, the majority of respondents were male entrepreneurs aged between 26–35 years with tertiary education. The study concludes that inadequate power supply hampers the growth and competitiveness of SMEs, thus necessitating urgent interventions from the government and other stakeholders. Recommendations included investment in electricity infrastructure, promotion of renewable energy, public-private partnerships, capacity-building programs, and improved stakeholder engagement. This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing empirical evidence on the effects of power shortages on SME performance within the Nigerian context and highlights potential solutions to enhance business resilience and economic development....Preview Download Preview +Other Office Technology and Management project topics and materials you might be interested in»Causes and effects of leakages of confidential information in business organization»The impact of modern office equipment on the secretary’s performance (A case study of Owerri municipal) »Effect of good filing system on productivity of a secretary (a case study of staff personnel in federal polytechnic Nekede, Owerri)»The impact of modern office machines on secretaries»Office skill competencies needed by secretaries for effective job performance»Effect of poor communication skills on the performance of secretaries in an organization (A case study of Nigeria Agip oil company, Port Harcourt, Rivers state) »Gender differences and similarities in career choice among secretarial administration students»Factors affecting students' performance in shorthand»Emerging challenges facing office technology and management students in information technology era»Impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on secretarial performance in public service in Owerri municipal»Professional ethics required of office manager in a changing office environment (A case study of selected institutions in Owerri, Imo state) »The effect of technological advancement on the job performance of office managers»Human relations skills required of office technology and management graduates in business organization»The challenges facing newly employed secretaries in selected ministries in Imo state»The impact of automation on the performance of secretaries (A case study of the west Africa examination council, WAEC, Enugu)
