Abstract
This study assessed the prevalence, knowledge, and risk factors associated with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) among pregnant women attending antenatal clinics in Owo, Ondo State. A total of 101 pregnant women were surveyed using structured questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that 89.1% of the respondents had heard about Hepatitis B, while 12.9% tested positive for the virus. Although awareness was high, some knowledge gaps were observed regarding modes of transmission and prevention. Commonly identified risk factors included previous surgery (24.8%), use of unsterilized traditional birth attendants (21.8%), and sharing of personal items (27.7%). The study concludes that despite high awareness, preventive practices and understanding of HBV remain insufficient. It recommends enhanced public health campaigns, routine antenatal screening, and HBV vaccination to reduce the risk of mother-to-child transmission and overall HBV burden in the community.
