Abstract
Public infrastructure investment plays a critical role in fostering regional economic development, particularly in emerging economies like Nigeria. This study examines the effect of public infrastructure investment on regional economic development in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study explores key variables such as regional economic disparities, infrastructure accessibility, and economic multiplier effects, analyzing their influence on regional economic growth and development. Findings reveal that infrastructure investment significantly contributes to economic development by enhancing business activities, creating employment opportunities, and improving living standards. However, disparities persist due to the uneven allocation of infrastructure between urban and rural areas, limiting the benefits of such investments for marginalized communities. Accessibility challenges, including inconsistent service delivery and poor infrastructure maintenance, further hinder regional development. Despite these issues, the economic multiplier effects of infrastructure investment, such as increased household incomes and business growth, underscore its critical importance for sustainable economic growth.  The study concludes that equitable distribution of infrastructure, improved accessibility, and strategic investment in high-impact projects are essential for maximizing the benefits of public infrastructure investment. Recommendations include fostering public-private partnerships, ensuring transparent policy implementation, and prioritizing rural infrastructure development. This research provides insights for policymakers, development planners, and stakeholders to enhance the role of infrastructure in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in AMAC and similar regions.
