Abstract
This project presents the development of a Web-Based Geographic Information System (GIS) application designed to enhance facility management in the University of Ilorin Main Campus. Facility management in large institutional settings, such as universities, often faces the challenge of managing vast and complex infrastructure, which includes academic buildings, student hostels, administrative blocks, and internal transportation routes. Traditional methods of facility oversight— typically paper-based or fragmented digital systems—often fall short in efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness. To address these challenges, this project integrates geospatial technologies with modern web development tools to create an interactive, accessible, and real-time GIS platform tailored for institutional use. The methodology involved the collection of spatial data using drone imagery and GPS, followed by digitization in ArcGIS Pro and attribute data integration using information from the university’s Physical Planning Unit. The geospatial layers were then published on ArcGIS Online and integrated into a web-based interface developed using HTML, JavaScript, and Tailwind CSS. The system supports real-time visualization, querying, spatial analysis (such as buffering and proximity analysis), and attribute-based searches. The developed platform enables facility managers, ICT units, and planning officers to locate infrastructure, assess facility conditions, plan maintenance schedules, and generate spatial reports seamlessly. Stakeholder feedback indicated improved data accessibility, faster decision-making, and higher user satisfaction compared to conventional approaches. This study demonstrates the viability of Web-GIS as a transformative tool for smart campus management. It recommends future enhancements such as mobile integration, sensor connectivity, and multi-user access control to further optimize university infrastructure management processes....
