Abstract
This study examines the dynamics of voter behavior in Nigeria’s presidential elections during President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration (2010–2015). The research focuses on the 2011 and 2015 elections, highlighting the factors that shaped voter choices, such as ethnicity, religion, economic hardship, insecurity, party realignments, campaign strategies, and media influence. A descriptive survey design was used in Agbor, Delta State, with a sample size of 400 respondents determined through the Taro Yamane formula. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed with simple descriptive statistics, while hypotheses were tested using the Chi-square method. Findings revealed that ethno-religious considerations, governance performance, and insecurity were central to voting behavior. The 2015 election, in particular, reflected voter dissatisfaction, stronger opposition coalitions, and the growing role of social media in mobilization. The study concludes that while identity politics remains influential, Nigerian voters are increasingly responsive to performance and issue-based factors....
