The study aims to understand the extent to which ethnic identity affects voter preferences and the implications of ethnic-based political mobilization on electoral outcomes in the region. The study is grounded in the Ethnic Mobilization Theory, which posits that ethnic identity plays a significant role in shaping political behavior, especially in societies with deep ethnic divisions like Nigeria. To analyze the data, a combination of descriptive statistics and simple percentage methods were employed, while hypothesis testing was conducted using the Chi-square test. The population for the study is derived from the 2006 Census data for Agbor, Delta State, with a projected population of approximately 150,000 individuals. A sample size of 370 respondents was selected using Taro Yamane's formula, and data were collected through structured questionnaires. The findings indicate that ethnicity significantly influences voting behavior in the region, with many voters prioritizing ethnic loyalty when making electoral decisions. Ethnic-based political mobilization was found to have a substantial impact on election outcomes, often shaping party strategies and influencing voter preferences.
