A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed. A total of 200 women of childbearing age were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a validated, self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 21. Results were presented using descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed a high level of awareness of PIH among respondents: 84.5% recognized it as a cause of high blood pressure during pregnancy, 80% were aware it could affect previously normotensive women, and 82.5% knew it typically develops after the 20th week of gestation. Additionally, 88.5% understood that PIH could be harmful to the fetus. However, only 62.5% correctly identified blurred vision as a symptom. Attitudes toward PIH were generally positive 90.5% acknowledged its seriousness, 93.5% would seek medical attention if symptomatic, and 91% were willing to take prescribed medication. Regarding preventive practices, 82.5% believed antenatal visits were essential, and 77% emphasized the importance of avoiding self-medication. The study concludes that while general knowledge and attitudes towards PIH are commendable, knowledge gaps still exist regarding specific symptoms and early warning signs. It is recommended that targeted health education campaigns be intensified to address these gaps. Community-based awareness programs, improved antenatal education, and active engagement with traditional birth attendants could further enhance early detection and management of PIH ...Preview Download Preview +Other Community Health project topics and materials you might be interested in»Knowledge and awareness of the effects of narcotic drug use among students of Federal Polytechnic Idah»Effect of immunization in children between the ages of 0-5 in family health centre Idah Local Government Area Kogi State»The effect of abortion on female students in College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah, Kogi»Factors influencing the attitude of women towards family planning - case study of Oke Eiri, Atan Local Government Area»Problem of pregnancy and abortion on girl child education in Nigeria»Effect of malnutrition among children under five years of age in Patigi community of Patigi local government area of Kwara state»Attitude of couple toward modern family planning practice in Birnin Gwari, Birnin Gwari local government, Kaduna state»Importance of exclusive breast feeding on the health of an infant - case study of Idah local government area of Kogi state»Knowledge of protein energy malnutrition and its prevention among mothers with children below five years of age in Ubiegbe Community Idah, Lga, Kogi state»The impact of community health works in elderly condition in Ungogo local government»Causes, effects and control of communicable diseases in secondary schools»A study on the causes, effects, prevention and control of threatened abortion among childbearing mothers ages (18-45) years in Gilead Children Hospital»Causes and effects of drug abuse among adolescent in Amede community»Assessment of prevalence malaria among the patients attending Tofa comprehensive hospital»Assessing the mother knowledge on the benefit of breast feeding among children 0 - 24 months - a case study of Matoya village Maigatari local government, Jigawa state
