The objectives of the study were to evaluate the level of awareness, assess understanding of the causes and consequences of anaemia, and determine knowledge of preventive measures among the respondents. The study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional design and utilized a structured, interviewer-administered questionnaire to collect relevant data from 150 pregnant women selected through multistage sampling techniques. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the aid of SPSS version 25. The results showed that although 82.7% of the respondents had heard about anaemia in pregnancy, only 53.3% demonstrated adequate knowledge of its causes, which include iron deficiency, malaria infection, poor dietary practices, and parasitic infestations. Additionally, only 47.3% of the participants were aware of appropriate preventive strategies such as iron and folic acid supplementation, balanced nutrition, malaria prophylaxis, and deworming. The study further identified a significant relationship between the respondents’ level of education, parity, and their knowledge of anaemia in pregnancy (p 0.05). These findings suggest that despite the relatively high level of awareness, there is a gap in in-depth understanding of anaemia and its prevention among the study population. This gap may contribute to the high prevalence of anaemia and its complications during pregnancy in the area. In conclusion, the study recommends the implementation of intensified health education campaigns, integration of comprehensive anaemia prevention modules into antenatal care programs, and community-based interventions aimed at improving nutritional and health-seeking behaviors. Addressing these knowledge gaps will contribute to the reduction of anaemia-related complications and improve maternal and child health outcomes in the community. ...Preview Download Preview +Other Community Health project topics and materials you might be interested in»Knowledge and awareness of the effects of narcotic drug use among students of Federal Polytechnic Idah»Effect of immunization in children between the ages of 0-5 in family health centre Idah Local Government Area Kogi State»The effect of abortion on female students in College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah, Kogi»Factors influencing the attitude of women towards family planning - case study of Oke Eiri, Atan Local Government Area»Problem of pregnancy and abortion on girl child education in Nigeria»Effect of malnutrition among children under five years of age in Patigi community of Patigi local government area of Kwara state»Attitude of couple toward modern family planning practice in Birnin Gwari, Birnin Gwari local government, Kaduna state»Importance of exclusive breast feeding on the health of an infant - case study of Idah local government area of Kogi state»Knowledge of protein energy malnutrition and its prevention among mothers with children below five years of age in Ubiegbe Community Idah, Lga, Kogi state»The impact of community health works in elderly condition in Ungogo local government»Causes, effects and control of communicable diseases in secondary schools»A study on the causes, effects, prevention and control of threatened abortion among childbearing mothers ages (18-45) years in Gilead Children Hospital»Causes and effects of drug abuse among adolescent in Amede community»Assessment of prevalence malaria among the patients attending Tofa comprehensive hospital»Assessing the mother knowledge on the benefit of breast feeding among children 0 - 24 months - a case study of Matoya village Maigatari local government, Jigawa state
