Abstract
This study examined media preferences and perceptions among students of Kano State Polytechnic. The study was motivated by the increasing role of mass media in students’ academic and social lives and the need to understand how students choose and perceive different media channels. The study adopted a survey research design, and data were collected from 150 students using structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using simple frequency counts and percentages. The findings revealed that the internet is the most preferred media channel among students, followed by television and radio, while newspapers were the least preferred. Entertainment and news were found to be the most consumed media content. The majority of students perceived mass media as very important in providing information, education and entertainment. The study concludes that both traditional and new media remain relevant among students of Kano State Polytechnic. It therefore recommends that media organizations and educational institutions should produce more student-oriented and educational media content, especially through digital platforms. ...
