Abstract
The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge of Kwara Polytechnic students on drug abuse and its implications in kidney disease, to evaluate students of Kwara State Polytechnic's attitudes towards drug abuse and to identify the practices of students of Kwara State Polytechnic that contribute to the risk of kidney disease resulting from drug abuse. Methodology:  A total of 286 questionnaires were distributed among students of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, using random sampling techniques to collect the required data. Literatures from previous studies was consulted using journals and books. The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS version 25) and were presented using frequency tables, pie charts, and bar charts. The study showed that a significant majority of students (90.0%) have heard about the relationship between drug abuse and kidney disease. Among these students, 21.2% have excellent knowledge, and 66.7% have good knowledge of the implications of drug abuse. Additionally, 84.8% of students are aware that drug abuse can lead to kidney disease, and 56.4% recognize high blood pressure as a potential sign of kidney disease. Also, 36.4% agree that many students don’t seek help for substance issues. The study concludes that the students have a good level of knowledge about drug abuse as a risk factor for kidney disease, and that not enough has been done by the school authorities to educate students about the risk of drug abuse. The institutions should implement comprehensive educational programs to raise awareness about the risks of drug abuse, particularly its impact on kidney health. This can include seminars, workshops, and informational materials that address the specific health risks, symptoms, and long-term effects of substance use...
