Abstract
Oral rehydration therapy (ORT) is a medical treatment used to prevent and treat dehydration, especially that caused by diarrhea in children with mild to moderate dehydration. This research study was aimed at assessing the knowledge and acceptance of oral rehydration therapy among mothers in the management of diarrhea in selected hospitals. Several literature were reviewed. Quantitative design using descriptive method was adopted and sample size of 99 was obtained using Andrew Fischer´s formula. Settings were selected using a purposive sampling method, respondents were selected using simple random technique and paper balloting to distribute the questionnaire. Relevant data were collected using a self-structured questionnaire. The questionnaire, which was retrieved and analyzed using Statistical Package and Service Solution (SPSS) version 29 presented in percentage, tables and bar charts. Findings from this study revealed that most of the respondents were within 26-30 (32.3%) years of age: more than half practiced Christianity(52%), while having 1-2 children (58.6%). The majority (88.9%) of the respondents have knowledge about ORT, while (86.9%) accept the use of oral rehydration therapy. Also, 87.9% knew the importance of ORT, Majority (86.9%) had used ORT to manage diarrhea for their children, (91.9%) believed religion positively influences the use of ORT in managing diarrhea in children and (81.9%) believed in the availability of ORT in the community. Therefore, it is recommended that the use of ORT should be encouraged among mothers and caregivers....
