Relevant literature were reviewed. Quantitative research design was adopted for the study. The objective of the study was to assess the commonly used social media platforms, identify factors influencing the use of social media and to identify the perceived impact of social media use on practical skills among students of College of Nursing Sciences, UITH. The target population for this study was 143 students of the College of Nursing Sciences, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Simple random sampling technique was used in selecting the respondents for the study. The instrument used was the researcher-designed questionnaire and about 143 questionnaires were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29. Findings from the analysis revealed that all of the students make use of social media and that the social media platforms they commonly utilize are WhatsApp (91.6%), TikTok (52.4%), Instagram (51.7%), YouTube (45.5%) and Facebook (44.8%). In conclusion, the level of utilization of social media for academic purposes among students in the Department of Basic Nursing, College of Nursing Sciences, UITH is below average(42%).
