Factors influencing workplace violence among health care workers in state hospital, Ogbomoso

Abstract
This study assesses the various factors influencing workplace violence among health care workers in State Hospital Ogbomoso, Oyo State. It made use of descriptive cross-sectional research design method with a sample of a ninety-five (95) respondents, including 75 Nurses, 8 Doctors, 4 laboratory scientists, 4 Physiotherapist and 5 Pharmacist, which was selected using non-probability sampling techniques of convenience techniques using the Taro Yamane’s statistical formula (N/(1+Ne)2) in State Hospital Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Data were collected through self-structured questionnaires. Simple Percentage was used to analyze the formulated research question, while a chi-square test was conducted on the (2) two hypotheses formulated for this study. The research discovered that there is a significant association between effective service delivery and workplace violence. With a Pearson Chi-Square value of 39.706 and a p-value of .000, it was also revealed that there is a significant relationship between these variables. This suggests that high levels of burnout and low job satisfaction are associated with a higher likelihood of workplace violence at a Pearson Chi-Square value of 23.879 with a p-value of .001. The following recommendations were made: it was suggested that the hospital management should improve the physical and social environments where care is provided. Creating a safer and more supportive workplace can reduce the likelihood of violence. Similarly, it was recommended that patients with mental health disorders or substance abuse problems are prone to violent behavior, while training programs should be introduced to help healthcare workers manage patients with these conditions more effectively, including de-escalation techniques and early identification of risky behaviors....
