This study investigated the knowledge and perception of mothers on the management of sickle cell disease in their children at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Kwara State, Nigeria. Relevant literature was reviewed and the study was anchored in the Health Belief Model Theory. A quantitative study adopting descriptive method was employed. This study utilized a purposive sampling technique to pick the hospital and ward (Emergency pediatric unit), while the consecutive sampling technique was used to recruit all available mothers. 156 mothers were selected from a population of 222 using Taro Yamane's formula. Data collection was done through a semi structured questionnaire, which were analyzed using IBM-SPSS version 26. Findings revealed that mothers' level of knowledge. The study found that all participants (100%) correctly identified sickle cell disease as a blood disorder affecting red blood cells, and all understood that it is inherited from both parents carrying the trait. Most of the participants could identify the symptoms of a sickle cell crisis, with 37.2% citing fever, 35.2% fatigue, and 27.6% severe joint pain. Mothers' perception on sickle cell management revealed that 53.2% of mothers felt confident managing their child's condition at home, yet 33.9% disagreed that adequate resources were available. The study concluded that while basic knowledge of SCD is high, systemic barriers such as inadequate healthcare access and financial burdens remain significant obstacles to optimal disease management.
