Menstrual hygiene management is crucial for the health, well-being and empowerment of adolescent girls, yet it remains a challenge in many parts of the world due to limited access to resources, social stigmatization and inadequate knowledge. Hence, this study aimed to assess the knowledge and practices of menstrual hygiene among adolescents attending Government Girls Day Secondary School, Okesuna, Amilegbe, Ilorin, Kwara State. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge of menstrual hygiene among adolescents, identify the menstrual hygiene practices of adolescents and identify the challenges faced by adolescents in practicing menstrual hygiene. Using a quantitative descriptive design, data were collected from 182 respondents through a self-designed questionnaire. The analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25. Results showed that while most respondents, 169(92.9%), recognized the importance of menstruation, few, 19(10.4%), were unaware of the origin of menstrual blood and the correct use of sanitary products. Economic barriers, cultural taboos, lack of affordable products, and inadequate sanitation facilities were significant challenges that hindered proper menstrual hygiene. The study concludes that although adolescents have a basic understanding of menstruation, there are significant gaps in their practical application of menstrual hygiene, which are further exacerbated by socio-economic and cultural barriers. Recommendations were made to female students to seek reliable menstrual health information from trusted sources such as health educators and healthcare providers, nurses should engage in community outreach programs to educate parents on the importance of menstrual hygiene and supporting their daughters in the practice of menstrual hygiene while the government should implement policies that ensure free or subsidized access to menstrual hygiene product for all adolescents....Preview Download Preview +Other Nursing Science project topics and materials you might be interested in»Factors contributing to ineffective utilization of immunization programme among mothers in Ekwerazu town Ahiazu Mbaise local government area Imo state»Knowledge and practice of quality assurance among nurses working in accident and emergency unit of University of Ilorin teaching hospital, Kwara state»Awareness of female genital mutilation and its implication to reproductive health among mothers in Amaifeke in Orlu local government, Imo state»Factors that influence the patronage of traditional birth attendants in Umuowa community Orlu Lga, Imo State»Accessibility and use of information communication technology (ICT) in the enhancement of nursing education among nursing students in Madonna University Teaching Hospital (MUTH)»Attitude of nurses towards research among accident and emergency nurses of University of Ilorin teaching hospital»Awareness and practice of pressure sores prevention in the care of the elderly among nurses in Madonna University Teaching Hospital»Incidence of protein energy malnutrition among children under five years in General Hospital, Yelwa Yauri, Kebbi state»Factors influencing the attitudes of women toward family planning in Rivers state»Assessment of nutritional pattern and practice among pregnant women in holy rosary hospital»Assessment of exclusive breastfeeding in the development of under-five children in Madonna University Teaching Hospital»Burnout syndrome and use of therapeutic approaches among nursing students in Madonna University, Rivers state»Assessment of practices used in the prevention of Lassa fever infection among health workers in Madonna University Teaching Hospital»Factors influencing high rate of abortion among women of childbearing age in Saki, Saki West Local Government Area, Oyo State»Awareness of determinants of sexual abuse and identification of supportive care among female nursing student of Madonna University
