The target populations were student nurses in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Research questions were formulated and a self-structured questionnaire was used to elicit data from the respondents. Taro Yamane's formula was used to get the sample size, while the stratified proportional technique was used to select the respondents. A self-structured questionnaire was used to obtain data from the respondents who participated in the study. Data was analyzed using statistical tools. Data collected were presented using frequency distribution tables and the study revealed that student nurses have a good understanding of analgesics, as well as it potential risks associated with the inappropriate use of analgesics. Results show that the majority of the respondents believe there are potential risks associated with the inappropriate use of analgesics, as over 54% of the respondents strongly agreed and the average of the major factors contributing to abuse of analgesics is easy accessibility among the student nurses and perceiving it as a pain management strategy.
