Abstract
This study is tailored to explore the Lived Experience of Student Feeding Pattern and its influence on Academic Activities in Kwara State. Relevant literature was reviewed. Qualitative research design was adopted for the study, using a phenomenology research design as the methodology. The target population consists of 60 final year students in the College of Nursing Sciences UITH and 64 final year students in the Department of Nursing Sciences, University of Ilorin. Giving a total population of 126. Focus groups, as discussed, were used for data collection, a systematic sampling was adopted for selecting 8 participants per focus group until data saturation was obtained for each institution. A purposive sampling technique was used to select the final year students from each institution. Balloting sampling technique was used to choose the two institutions used. The data was collected with an audio recorder and field notes from the interview discussion was transcribed verbatim and analyzed using NVivo v25. Findings from the analysis revealed that 8 out of 14 student nurses reported that they do not take three square meals as they often skip meals. Further analysis revealed that 9 out of 14 of the participants identified time constraint as a factor influencing their Feeding pattern.13 out of 14 noted that their feeding pattern does have an effect on their academic activities. In conclusion, the study reveals that feeding patterns significantly impact academic activities. Recommendations were made to optimize academic activities and overall well-being. Students and nurses should prioritize balanced diets, while governments should implement healthy school meal programs and nutrition education, and further research should investigate nutrition’s impact on cognition and food insecurity to inform evidence-based strategies...
