This study aimed to examine the prevalence, predictors, and consequences of perennial workplace violence among healthcare workers at Isolo General Hospital, Lagos State. It also explored strategies for mitigating these challenges to foster a safer work environment. A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed, with data collected from 140 healthcare workers through a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire assessed the frequency of workplace violence, its contributing factors, and its effects on staff. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies and percentages, presented in tables and charts. The results revealed that workplace violence is highly prevalent, with 38.6% of healthcare workers experiencing assaults monthly and verbal abuse (50.7%) being the most common form. Predictors of violence included heavy workload (45.7%), inadequate security measures (30.7%), long waiting times (41.4%), and communication barriers (46.4%). The consequences were severe, ranging from chronic stress (45.7%) and mental health issues (60%) to impaired patient care (51.4%) and increased absenteeism (47.9%). The emergency room was identified as the most frequent setting for workplace violence (60%), with patients' family members being the primary perpetrators (62.9%). In conclusion, workplace violence among healthcare workers at Isolo General Hospital is widespread, driven by systemic and interpersonal factors. The study recommends mandatory de-escalation training, improved security measures, adequate staffing, and effective communication strategies. These interventions are crucial for creating a safer and more supportive work environment, which is essential for retaining skilled healthcare professionals and ensuring high-quality patient care.
