Abstract
Ocular injuries are the leading cause of monocular blindness today and children are more prone to injuries because of their inability to avoid hazards. This study was aimed at determining the incidence of ocular injuries among patients aged 2-10 years attending the Eye Clinic in Civil Service Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State. The target populations were children aged 2-10 years, who attended the Eye Clinic in Civil Service Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State, between January, 2019 and December, 2023. A checklist consisting of relevant data was used. Data was analyzed using tables such as frequency tables and inferential statistics with the use of chi-square. The findings revealed that the highest incidence of ocular injuries, 47(23.5%), was recorded in the year 2020 and the least, 3(18.7%) was recorded in the year 2021. Sand, dust, or wood particles, and metal particles were the highest causing agents of ocular injury. The study revealed that there is a significant difference between the age of patients aged 2-10 years and the incidence of ocular injuries in the Eye Clinic of Civil Service Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State.
