Abstract
Health education is concerned with promoting health as well as reducing behaviour induced diseases. Malaria Preventive Education focuses on the prevention strategies to reduce the risk of malaria and associated morbidities by empowering behaviour change and actions through increased knowledge. Hence, this study was carried out to explore the perceived impact of health education on malaria prevention among mothers attending the Child Welfare Clinic in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Relevant literature from various authors on health education on malaria and research on the level of knowledge, lived experience and the barriers influencing health education on malaria prevention were reviewed. A purposive sampling technique was used; a total of 10 mothers were interviewed by the researcher. Data collected was analyzed using thematic analysis and was presented using NVivo version 10. The findings from the research showed that most of the mothers were able to give at least two preventive measures, 40% of the mothers voiced out cultural beliefs and practices as hindrances to the preventive practice restraints, about 80% of the mothers reported no barriers in accessing health education, while 20% expressed language as a major barrier in understanding health education. Most of them got their information from frequent visits to the antenatal clinics, while some got it from social media like radios and television.  Some of the mothers mistook malaria for cholera. It was concluded that the mothers have good knowledge about malaria prevention strategies. Recommendations were made that Management should continuously educate the mothers about health....
