This study evaluates the performance of Wi-Fi 5 (IEEE 802.11ac) and Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax) access points deployed in the Central ICT Laboratory of the School of Technology, Kano State Polytechnic. The primary aim is to provide an empirical comparison of throughput, latency, signal strength, and network stability under varying user loads and distances. Using an experimental research design, both Wi-Fi standards were deployed under identical environmental conditions. Performance metrics were measured using iPerf3 for throughput and latency, and WiFi analyzer tools for signal strength and channel utilization. Tests were conducted across multiple scenarios: varying distances (5m, 10m, 15m, 20m) and device densities (5 to 50 concurrent users). Results will indicate that Wi-Fi 6 consistently outperforms Wi-Fi 5 across all evaluated metrics. Specifically, Wi-Fi 6 achieved 55–100% higher throughput, 60–75% lower latency, and maintained stronger signal strength at longer distances. Under high-density conditions, Wi-Fi 6 supported up to 60 stable concurrent users with less than 3% packet loss, whereas Wi-Fi 5 degraded beyond 40 users with packet loss exceeding 10%. These improvements are largely attributed to Wi-Fi 6’s advanced features, including OFDMA, enhanced MU-MIMO, and Target Wake Time....Preview Download Preview +Other Computer Engineering project topics and materials you might be interested in»Computerized crime tracking information system (case study of Nigeria police)»Design and implementation of an online prison management system (a case study of Nigeria prison service, Enugu) »Design and implementation of an automated inventory control system for a manufacturing organisation (a case study of Nigerian breweries plc, Enugu)»Design and implementation of a computerized drug procurement and distribution tracking system»Computer system assembly and networking»Design and implementation of NYSC orientation camp information system (a case study of NYSC Awgu)»Design and construction of electric water heater»Teleconference system»Boosting campus network design using Cisco packet tracer»Design and implementation of online examination recruitment system - a case study of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri»Design and implementation of a real-time traffic sensor»Bridge overloading and traffic control system»Remote monitoring and control of a refrigerator using GSM interface»Design and implementation of the use of android phone technology in solving problems of electrical electronic appliances»Implementation of real-time information management for the institute of technology
