Laboratory tests, including moisture content, specific gravity, and compressive strength. were conducted according to BS 373: 1957 and ASTM D143-94 standards. The results show that dense species like Ironwood, Gmelina, and Mahogany exhibit high compressive strength and are suitable for load-bearing structures, while lighter species like Mango and Obuba are better suited for non-structural applications. This study highlights timber''s potential as a sustainable alternative to conventional building materials and provides critical data for optimizing timber use in construction projects in Nigeria.
