Abstract
The adoption of innovative technologies has become essential for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of public service delivery, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria. Blockchain technology, characterized by decentralization, transparency, immutability, and security, has emerged as a promising tool for transforming public sector operations. This study examines the adoption of blockchain technology for public service delivery in Nigeria, with a focus on its potential to enhance efficiency, transparency, and trust in government services. The research adopts a qualitative approach, relying on secondary data from academic literature, government reports, and case studies of blockchain implementation in various countries. The study explores key areas of public service delivery, including identity management, public procurement, healthcare services, and financial transactions, where blockchain can be effectively applied. Findings reveal that blockchain technology can significantly improve service delivery by reducing bureaucratic delays, minimizing corruption, ensuring data integrity, and enabling real-time access to information. It also enhances trust between citizens and government institutions by providing transparent and verifiable systems. However, the study identifies several challenges to adoption, including inadequate technological infrastructure, lack of regulatory frameworks, limited technical expertise, high implementation costs, and resistance to change within public institutions. The study concludes that while blockchain holds significant potential for improving public service delivery in Nigeria, its successful adoption requires strong government commitment, policy support, investment in digital infrastructure, and capacity building. It recommends a phased implementation strategy, starting with pilot projects in critical sectors, alongside the development of clear regulatory guidelines to ensure effective integration of blockchain technology into public administration....
