Abstract
The emergence of Artificial Intelligence has introduced a new dimension to content creation in the media industry, particularly through the use of AI-generated content. This study examines the influence of AI-generated content on media credibility and audience trust within the framework of Mass Communication. As media organizations increasingly adopt AI tools for news writing, content curation, and automated reporting, concerns have arisen regarding the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of such content. The study adopts a descriptive survey research design, utilizing both primary and secondary data. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to media audiences and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The findings reveal that while AI-generated content enhances speed, efficiency, and accessibility of information, it also raises significant concerns about misinformation, lack of human judgment, and reduced editorial accountability. Furthermore, the study shows that audience trust in media is influenced by perceptions of authenticity, credibility, and transparency. Many respondents express skepticism toward AI-generated news, particularly when there is no clear disclosure of AI involvement. However, when AI content is properly verified and supported by human oversight, trust levels tend to improve. The study concludes that AI-generated content has a dual impact on media credibility; it can both enhance and undermine trust depending on how it is implemented and managed. To maintain credibility, media organizations must ensure transparency in AI usage, uphold ethical standards, and integrate human editorial control into AI-driven processes. The study recommends that media institutions develop clear guidelines for AI content usage, prioritize fact-checking mechanisms, and promote media literacy among audiences to better navigate AI-generated information. These measures are essential for sustaining public trust in an increasingly automated media environment....
