Abstract
This study investigated the influence of counsellor-related and socio-cultural factors on the low patronage of counselling services among undergraduate students at Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASUED), Ogun State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design and targeted the undergraduate population of the university. A sample of 384 students was selected using a stratified random sampling technique to ensure adequate representation across faculties and genders. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled Counsellor, Socio-Culture, and Counselling Patronage Questionnaire (CSCPQ), which demonstrated a reliability coefficient of 0.80 using Cronbach’s Alpha. The instrument assessed students’ perceptions of counsellor attributes and socio-cultural influences on help-seeking behaviour. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that counsellor-related factors (ß  0.41, p  0.001) and socio-cultural factors (ß  0.37, p  0.001) significantly predicted counselling patronage, jointly accounting for 38% of the variance (R²  0.38). The results further showed that there was no significant gender difference in perceptions influencing counselling utilisation. Based on these findings, the study recommended that counsellors should improve their approachability and maintain strict confidentiality, while university management should implement culturally sensitive awareness campaigns aimed at reducing stigma and increasing the visibility of counselling services. These measures are essential for enhancing counselling service utilisation and promoting the mental well-being of students. Key Words: Counsellor-Related Factors, Socio-Cultural Factors, Low Patronage and Undergraduates....
