Abstract
Laboratory inventory management in many academic and research institutions is still carried out manually, a practice that is prone to record inaccuracies, misplaced ledgers, stock shortages, and undetected losses of chemicals and equipment. This project presents the design and implementation of a Web-Based Laboratory Inventory Tracker System (LITS), developed to automate and simplify the monitoring of laboratory consumables, glassware, and minor equipment. The study adopted the Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) methodology combined with an Agile development approach, allowing the system to be built incrementally through well-defined phases such as requirements analysis, design, implementation, and testing. The application was developed using HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap 5, and JavaScript (ES6) for the front end, with the browser''s Local Storage API used for data persistence. The system comprises several functional modules, including User Registration, Login, Dashboard, Category Management, Inventory Management, Transaction Management, Reports, and Settings, which together support real-time inventory tracking, automatic stock status calculation, and report generation. System testing confirmed that all modules met their specified functional requirements, demonstrating that the system reduces manual errors, minimizes paperwork, and improves the overall accuracy and efficiency of laboratory inventory management. The study concludes that a lightweight, web-based approach offers a practical and cost-effective alternative to expensive commercial inventory solutions, particularly for small to medium-sized laboratory facilities. It recommends that laboratories adopt computerized inventory systems, train personnel on their use, maintain regular data backups, and consider migrating to a centralized database such as MySQL or PostgreSQL for future multi-user scalability....
