The objectives of this study are to examine the reasons for public administration and good governance in Nigeria, the role of public administration in Nigeria, and to examine the hindrances to public administration in promoting good governance in Nigeria and the way forward. The methodology adopted in gathering data was the descriptive method and both primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary sources is the questionnaire. From a population of 292, 800 a sample size of 400 respondents was selected using the Taro Yamane formula. Findings revealed, among others, that public administration remains a fundamental tool for promoting good governance in Nigeria. When efficiently managed, public administration can foster trust in government, enhance service delivery, and ensure equitable development at the grassroots level. However, in the case of Adavi LGA, challenges such as corruption, political manipulation, lack of skilled personnel, inadequate funding, and low public participation have greatly limited the potential of public administration to achieve good governance. In view of the findings, it was recommended that the government should invest in capacity building for public administrators in Adavi LGA through regular training, provision of modern tools, and updating of skills to improve efficiency and accountability. Mechanisms should be put in place to promote transparency in budgeting, procurement, and service delivery. Public officials should be held accountable for misuse of public funds through strict enforcement of anti-corruption laws. Also, adequate and timely disbursement of funds should be ensured to enable local governments to carry out their responsibilities effectively. Internally generated revenue should also be improved.
