The objectives of the study are to examine the causes and impacts of girl child labour on society and the educational development of Kogi State. The study adopted a descriptive method, both primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary sources is the questionnaire. From a population of 3,200, a sample size of 381 respondents was selected using Taro Yamane technique. Findings revealed that the educational development of the girl child in Kogi State, especially Dekina Local Government, is severely affected by girl child labour. The affected girls are often denied the opportunity to attend school or are withdrawn prematurely due to financial burdens or the perceived need for their contribution to household income. This results in low school enrollment, high dropout rates, poor academic performance, and limited prospects for higher education and gainful employment. The findings also revealed that the effects of girl child labour on society include: perpetuation of poverty, hindrance to economic development, exacerbation of gender inequality, health implications, social instability and violation of human rights. In view of the findings, it was recommended that the Child Rights Act should be fully domesticated and enforced in all parts of Kogi State. Agencies responsible for child protection must be empowered with adequate resources and personnel to monitor, investigate, and prosecute cases of child labour; financial incentives should be given to families that enroll and retain their daughters in school.
