The objectives are: to examine whether performance appraisal improve quality of employee work in Kogi State Polytechnic; to evaluate whether performance appraisal has a positive impact on employee performance in Kogi State Polytechnic and to determine if significant relationship between performance appraisal and employee performance in Kogi State Polytechnic. Survey research design was adopted and the method of data collection for the research is primary and secondary data. Questionnaires were the source of primary data. From a population of 1895 staff, 330 staff were selected using the Taro Yamane formula. Findings, among others, revealed that performance appraisal improves the quality of employee work at Kogi State Polytechnic, it encourage cooperation among staff in Kogi State Polytechnic and it enhanced staff initiative. Performance appraisal is necessary for the growth of an organization and, consequently, that of any nation and should be held in esteem and managed properly, devoid of corruption. Thus, it is recommended, among others, that the organization's management should give emphasis to employees' performance appraisal exercises that will cover a wide range of areas, such as on-the-job and off-the-job appraisal, employees' attitude to work and annual performance evaluation.
