Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are among the important bacterial organisms associated with infected wounds. This study investigated the antibacterial efficacy of Faidherbia albida stem bark extract against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa isolated from wound infections. The study adopted an experimental laboratory-based design. Wound swab specimens were collected and subjected to standard microbiological procedures for isolation and identification of the test organisms. Stem bark of F. albida was extracted using 70% ethanol after maceration. Qualitative phytochemical screening was conducted for alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, phenols, terpenoids, glycosides, steroids and anthraquinones. Antibacterial activity was evaluated using the agar well diffusion method at concentrations of 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/mL. Ciprofloxacin was used as the positive control, while 10% DMSO served as the negative control. MIC and MBC were determined using broth dilution procedures. For the purpose of presenting a complete project format, the illustrative results showed that the extract contained several phytochemical constituents and demonstrated concentration-dependent antibacterial activity against both test organisms. The larger concentrations produced wider zones of inhibition than the lower concentrations. The extract also demonstrated inhibitory and bactericidal effects at different concentrations against the organisms. The illustrative findings suggest that F. albida stem bark contains bioactive compounds with potential antibacterial activity against wound-associated bacteria. However, actual laboratory results should replace the illustrative values before the work is submitted as a completed research project. ...Preview Download Preview +Other Biological Science project topics and materials you might be interested in»Availability and utilization of laboratory resources in teaching and learning biology in Enugu north local government area of Enugu state»Effect of role-play method on academic achievement of biology students in selected secondary schools in Kano metropolis»Isolation and identification of Helminth parasites of public health importance from commercial aquaculture ponds water within Kano metropolitan»An investigation into the management and utilization of biological gardens in tertiary institution in Kano state»An analysis of the conceptual knowledge of drug abuse among biology students»Awareness and preventive measures of HIV/AIDS among undergraduates in Isiala Ngwa south local government area»Isolation and identification of helminthes parasites of public health importance from commercial aquaculture ponds water within Kano metropolitan»Assessment of seed extract of pignut Jatropha Curcas for the control of beans weevil Callosobruchus Maculatus»Phytochemical screening and antimicrobial activity of Pourpartia birrea»A study of antibacterial activity of Zea Mays and Cymbopogan Citrasus on bacteria isolated from urine of pregnant women»Survey of insect pest infestation of trees in Kano zoological garden»Effects of some classes of insecticides Onclarias Gariepinus juveniles»Effect of problem solving strategy on students academic achievement, retention and attitudes in biology among science secondary schools, Kano state»Isolation and identification of fungi in Nana hostel at Bayero university, Kano»Welfare profile of African catfish (Clarias Garipinus) exposed to senna occidentalis leaf powder
