The objectives of the study are to identify the relationship between internal checks, internal control and internal audit and fraud prevention and detection in Nigerian deposit money banks and to find out whether it is the responsibility of the external auditor to prevent and detect fraud. The research method for this study is an expository design. Data for the study were gathered from both primary and secondary sources. The population of the study is twenty-five (25) and the sample size is 25. The findings revealed that the primary objective of an audit is to verify accounts and express an opinion on the financial statements, and auditors' responsibility is to investigate whether the financial position of the organization is free of errors. Auditors’ responsibilities enhance transparency and accountability in Nigeria Deposit money banks. The study recommends that Auditors should increase the scope of their activities on the efficiency of banks' internal control systems, risk assessment and system audits, as this will enhance the detection of fraudulent activities.
